Revealed! Office install/update errors and fixes

Here’s a list of the known Office install/update error codes with possible fixes.  All thanks to a diligent and long-suffering Office Watch reader.

Ron S has compiled these lists from web sites and forums based on experiences of other people.

Doesn’t Microsoft have all this?

Yes, they probably do but not for public consumption.   Microsoft has stubbornly refused to publish useful information about Office update/install error codes and what specifically is needed to fix a problem.

As we’ve already mentioned, the error code text is often misleading or so general that it’s worthless. Even numbered Error codes cover such a wide range of problems as to be equally worthless.

Ron has done his best to compile what’s known and point the way for Office customers caught in update hell.

But he should not need to do this.  It’s Microsoft’s job to provide proper diagnostic information and fixes.
