Here’s the new look for Office 365 on Windows 10 and 11

Microsoft Office 365 is getting a new look for Windows 10 and the upcoming Windows 11. We have a video of the changes coming soon.

On Windows 10 and 11, the Office apps get a ‘visual refresh’ to a more neutral, color scheme. Windows 11 apps get what Microsoft calls ‘soft’ corners but everyone else calls rounded edges.

The ‘visual refresh’ will be an option.  Other color schemes will still be available from File | Options | General | Office theme … choose from Colorful, Dark Grey, Dark, Light or Use system setting.

More than just a coat of paint?

A close look at this Microsoft video reveals there might be more to these changes than just a ‘coat of paint’.

The Quick Access Toolbar and Share button also gets some changes too. We’ll know more when the software is released.

Windows 10 too

Similar changes, without the rounded corners is coming to Office 365 on Windows 10.  It’s being rolled out to Insiders who may, or may not, see a ‘Coming Soon’ option.

Who gets the ‘visual refresh’ and when

Starting with Office Insiders v2108 Build 14301.20004 (released on 7 July 2021) or later with Windows 11 or Windows 10.

However it’s a gradual rollout so even with the right Insiders version, you might have to wait for the visual changes to be turned on. You’ll know the new look is available because an option will appear to enable it.
