One of our favorite Powertoys gets an update.
SyncToy was released as a beta in early August 2005 and we had a full review of it in Office Watch #10.31.
Since then, the Microsoft developers have collected feedback and released a version 1.1 with some welcome features including:
- Support for UNC paths (Universal Naming Convention – that’s the //server/C-share system) when defining folder pairs.
- Support for mapped network drives (which can also be used to handle the problem of the maximum supported length of UNC folder paths)
- Link to the help file for information on how to schedule SyncToy using the Windows XP Task Scheduler (“Help | Learn How to Schedule SyncToy”).
- Warning for users if the selected action will take a considerable amount of time to complete.
- Fix for a bug caused by Daylight Saving Time changes.
- More complete Help file documentation.
