Google Calendar with Outlook

Use RemoteCalendars to synchronize your Outlook 2003 calendar with your Google Calendar.

Google Calendar is very interesting but lacks an offline / software option. As we’ve mentioned before, the thing that would give Google Calendar a real boost is a way to synchronize your Outlook 2003 calendar with the online version.

It turns out there is a way to do that already. RemoteCalendars from SourceForge.net is one of those interesting open source team projects that can be found on Sourceforge.

RemoteCalendars an add-in for Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007, to let you subscribe, reload and delete remote iCalendar entries with your Outlook calendar.

RemoteCalendars has had a real boost with the release of Google Calendar because it’s given the idea of publish calendar information via iCal sharing a practical and popular application.

The developer knows that connectivity is a big thing but they are hampered by the programming interface with Google Calendar is still in development.

But it’s still an interesting thing to watch and you might like to try it out and give some feedback to an obviously enthusiastic team of developers. The forum starts here.

There’s a good guide to using RemoteCalendars with Outlook, but there are still limitations so move carefully and check out the tips in the Grinn web page and the Readme.txt file.
