Google’s video call and conference service gets link to Outlook.
Google Apps users can now make and schedule video calls from Outlook using a new add-in.
The Hangouts Plugin for Microsoft Outlook adds two buttons to the ribbon for scheduled and immediate video calls. A video call name is added to an Outlook calendar item. There’s no chat support.
Microsoft’s equivalent, Lync, has similar integration into Outlook.
Hangouts Plugin for Microsoft Outlook 2007, 2010 or 2013 requires Windows 7 or 8 plus a Google Apps for Business, Education or Government subscription.
Aside from being useful for Google apps users, it’s another little kick at Microsoft which still has not provided any Skype add-in for Outlook. That’s despite Microsoft’s purchase of Skype and the usual promises of integration being made.
