Install choices with Click to Run

At last, admins can choose the Office programs to install with Click to Run.

A new version of the Office Deployment Tool for Office 2013 admins lets you choose the Office programs to install using ‘Click to Run’.

You’d probably think that such a feature would be requirement of the first release but no. Up to know a Click to Run deployment has been an ‘all or nothing’ affair.

The XML file that controls an Office deployment now has an ExcludeApp element that looks like this:





But there’s a snag, as noted by Microsoft:

“An Online Repair of Office 2013 Click-to-Run will install all the applications on the system, overriding the settings made in the configuration.xml file.”

It’s strange that the Repair function wasn’t built, in the first place, with the ability to only fixed the installed programs.

Details of the application selection options here. They only apply to Office deployments by organizations, not individuals with Office 365 rental and Click to Run install.
