IS MICROSOFT FILTERING OFFICE WATCH EMAIL?

Many readers have asked if Microsoft is trying to stop Office Watch being read! They’ve noticed that our newsletters are sometimes caught in the Outlook 2003 spam filter, especially when it’s on the High setting.

We’d prefer not to think that Microsoft or some of its staff are that petty. It’s always been hard for spam filters to tell the difference between legitimate newsletters and unwanted messages. Spammers are very cunning at taking advantage of that gray area.

The solution for any newsletter you want to receive is to tell your spam filter to ignore messages from specific people or organizations. Outlook 2003 does this automatically to some extent – there are options under Actions | Junk E-mail | Junk E-mail options | Safe Senders to not filter messages from people in your contacts list and anyone you’ve sent email to.

For newsletters this doesn’t work too well because the sender for each message is different (to help identify addresses that need to be removed). For this situation you should enter the domain name into the Safe Senders list:

In Outlook 2003:

– Actions | Junk E-mail | Junk E-mail options | Safe Senders

– Click Add

– Enter the domains we use for sending newsletters

lists.woodyswatch.com

lists.office-watch.com

Enter the domains one at a time and click OK to add them to the list.

Other email programs and spam filters should have a similar feature – check the help files for your setup.
