Setup Contacts on Zoom

Linking to other people on Zoom is necessary before you call them. We’ll explain both sending contact requests and receiving them.

A person has to be added to your Zoom contacts list before you can call them.  Similarly, they have to add you to their contacts before they can call you.

Zoom contacts are separate from Outlook or other contacts list.

See our guide to starting with Zoom … Get ready to Zoom ….

Before starting

Zoom links people / contacts by matching email addresses.  Sounds simple but it’s a little more complicated in the Real World©

Most people have multiple email addresses. One for work, one for personal.  Many people have different email addresses for different purposes or a jumble of old email addresses and newer ones.

What email address?

It’s a good idea to check with someone before trying to add them to a Zoom contacts list. Ask  …

Which email address is your Zoom account using?

In other words, what email address do they use to login to Zoom?

To check, they click on their Zoom profile (top right of the app) where their name and email are displayed.

Invite a Zoom contact

To link with someone, in the Zoom app, go to the Contacts section then click the plus + symbol.

Enter the email address of the contact you want to add to Zoom.

Then you have two options:

Add Contact – sends a contact request to that person’s Zoom account.

Copy Invitation – copies to your clipboard with web link.  Paste that into an email or instant message.

No need to paste the entire text, change it to suit. The web link is the important thing to pass along. Make sure you include the whole web link, it’s a long link, usually multiple lines.

Accepting a Zoom Contact Request

If someone adds you to their Zoom contact list, you’ll see a pop-up alert like this in Windows.

Or open your Zoom app/web page. Under Contacts look at Contact Requests.  The request will show there with options to Accept or Decline.

As you can see above, the Contact Requests you’ve made also appear with their current status.

What’s Next?

Now you’ve linked with someone on Zoom, you can call them (voice, video, text etc).

If someone wants to invite you into a Zoom meeting, give them you Zoom linked email address.

Get ready to Zoom ….
