Why PowerPoint Video Backgrounds Should Be Banned

Microsoft is pushing video backgrounds to PowerPoint slides, but they really are a bad idea and should be banned from slide decks.

Designer’s Design Ideas will start with a background video.  Microsoft loves showing off these moving backgrounds because they impress people at demonstrations.

Moving backgrounds are not a good idea because they distract the audience from the presenter and the slide content.

Opening Slide Only

Video backgrounds are great for an opening slide that’s displayed before the presentation begins. It’s something to look at while your eager audience is gathering.

Our Editor-in-Chief inserted one of his own diving videos to make this opening slide.

For the main presentation slides use a static image or pattern. Perhaps continue the video theme with a still from the opening video or something with similar coloring.
