Type the Division ÷ symbol into Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Outlook. Both in Office for Windows and Office for Mac.
Division ÷ symbol is an alternative to the / character. Made up of a dash and two dots.
÷ symbol isn’t recommended these days. It’s not universally known and mostly used to mark division in English speaking countries.
The ISO standard recommends the / “fraction bar” or solidus instead of ÷ . Despite that, you’ll often see ÷ in basic math/arithmetic books.
