A company called MAPIlab has released a thorough, accurate, independent evaluation of the junk mail filter in Outlook 2003. If you’re using Outlook 2003’s spam filter, I suggest you take a look at mapilab.com.
I’ve been saying this for a long time, but it bears repeating. The Achilles heel of Outlook 2003’s spam filter: it’s the same for all Outlook 2003 users. If a spammer can put together just one message that gets through the filter, it’ll get through the filter on all Outlook 2003 machines. That focuses a lot of effort on cracking one single anti-spam dictionary.
The only possible solution is to have a million points of spam filtering light – individual (probably Bayesian) filters that are tuned differently by and for each individual. I still swear by Junk-Out, but this article gives you many good alternatives.
