Microsoft takes calendaring app … and kills it

Microsoft has bought the Genee calendar system and promptly announced that it was being killed off.   Genee customers have only until 1st September to move.

Genee has some clever technology for setting up meetings with many people.  It can check each calendar and suggest a time and place that works for all involved.  Microsoft has a similar offering but only if everyone has Exchange Server calendaring.

Eventually, the Genee system should become part of Office 365.  Hopefully it will retain the ability to interface with non-Microsoft calendars.

Read the announcements from Genee and Microsoft, if only to see the latest in the tech world’s version of corporate speak.
