Even today, despite the public outcry, a document saved to docs.com will automatically be available to everyone. The privacy choices aren’t obvious and the ‘public’ default isn’t clear either.
Here’s what you see when uploading to docs.com
You have to click the ‘three dots’ menu button then scroll down a long list of options to find the ‘Visibility’ state.
If you leave the ‘Public on the web’ option, there’s a warning. We can’t say if that warning is new after the complaints of the last few days.
Alas, too many people will click the ‘Do not show this message again’ box which will hide the public access warning in future. Maybe Microsoft will change this to force the warning for all public access documents?
