There’s only one Office patch this month. Given Microsoft’s bad track record on patches, especially over the last few months, we can only hope that this patch is bug free.
The patch itself is ‘déjà vu all over again’. It fixes yet more ways for a hacked Office document to let people access your computer. There have been many, many similar ‘remote code execution’ patches over the years.
This security hole effects pretty much every Office version that Microsoft supports. Office for Windows 2016, 2013, 2010 and 2007. Office for Mac 2011 and 2016. Word and Excel viewers, SharePoint Server 2013 and even Visual Basic 6 runtime.
Let Windows Update handle the details or go to https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS16-004 to track down the patches you need.
