PowerPoint 2010 - first look

A look at the ribbons and menus in the next version of PPT.

A look at the ribbons and menus in the next version of PPT.

We’ve already looked at Word 2010, Excel 2010, OneNote 2010 and Outlook 2010 plus the new look Office button menu.

These sneak peeks into the Office 2010 Technical Preview. Nothing is guaranteed but most, if not all, of these changes will be in the released Office 2010. Click on any image to see a full-size version.

As with all the major Office 2010 programs the ‘Office button’ has been shrunk down and the Quick Access Toolbar moved to the left.

See our separate article Under the Office 2010 ‘Office’ button.

Reading View

The status bar hasn’t changed except for the addition of a ‘Reading View’ which displays the slides. Reading View has replaced Slide Show view on the View tab.

Transitions

Transitions is a new tab for those features in Powerpoint.

At first it seems that the transitions have been severely reduced from the long list available in PowerPoint 2007 (on the animations tab).

What Microsoft has done is shrink the gallery list down to each core transitions type (Wipe, Shape etc) to which you then add Effect Options that change to match the transition you’ve selected (for Wipe you get eight options like From Right, From Left, From Top etc.).
