News has leaked of a new and interesting offering from Microsoft called Flow.

Thanks to WalkingCat we saw this image of Microsoft Flow and an introductory blog posting – both of which have now been removed from public view.

What is Flow?

Don’t let the talk of ‘workflows’ mislead you, Flow is different from past efforts at ‘workflow’ from Microsoft.

It’s Microsoft’s version of ‘IFTTT’ – IF That Then This which is a series of online connections most popular at https://ifttt.com/

The idea is to connect different online services to each other via online linkages.  For example, if a new file arrives in Dropbox, copy it to Google Drive.    If an email arrives from the boss, send an SMS/text message to alert you.

Microsoft Flow will include connections to Office 365, OneDrive, SharePoint and Dynamics CRM – all Microsoft products so no surprise there.

It will also connect with non-Microsoft products and even rivals like Slack, Salesforce, Dropbox, Google Drive, Twitter and Github.

Flow has interesting possibilities, let’s see if the first release is more promise or substance.

You can keep an eye on http://flow.microsoft.com to see if the service has become available.
