Microsoft Office apps for Android have been updated in October with some tricks from other Office apps now available on Android.
Now individual chart elements can be chosen and manipulated rather than only the entire chart. This applies to all charts in Word, Excel or PowerPoint apps.
PowerPoint now gets the neat trick of converting a drawing into a shape ‘Convert to Shapes’.
And there’s the usual ‘job lot’ of bug fixes which the Office app development teams feel is too demeaning to acknowledge.
Looking to the future
Office for Android previews have some useful additions that should be publicly available in 2017.
- Support for Box, Egnyte and Weiyun cloud storage.
- Sharing notifications when there’s been activity on shared documents.
- Excel – insert and edit hyperlinks.
- Excel – Maps chart type is now supported.
