Degree symbol ° in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Type or enter the °  Degree symbol into Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Windows / Mac programs generally.

Degree ° is a common symbol and should be available in most fonts.  If not, try another font or one of the fonts with a very wide range of characters like Arial Unicode MS or Lucida Sans Unicode.

Word shortcut for Degree °

Degree ° has an inbuilt shortcut in Word.

Ctrl + @ followed by a space will enter a  ° Degree symbol

On a US keyboard it’ll be Ctrl + Shift + 2/@ then a space.

Or use the standard Word symbol shortcut B0 then  Alt + X  See The old Alt+X trick.

Once in a document you can copy it to AutoCorrect and make your own shortcut.

Degree in Excel and PowerPoint

Insert | Symbols | Symbol and look for the Degree ° or just enter the Unicode (Hex) value  00B0 into the character code box.

Windows and the Degree symbol

In Windows there are several shortcuts to enter the Degree ° character into any program but they use a numeric keypad, not the number row above the letters.

Alt + 00B0  is the Windows keyboard shortcut.

Windows Character Map

The Windows Character Map accessory is in all Windows releases.  It lets you access symbols and letters.

In Character Map enter the code 00B0 into the ‘Go to Unicode’ box to jump to that character.
