Some Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Office users have been getting “30088-27” errors when trying to update the app in the past month.
Users of Click-To-Run (C2R) versions of Office 2016, 2019, and 2021 are affected as well as Microsoft 365 when updating to Office version 17726.20126.
The update error says there was a problem looking for updates and to check the network connection which is totally misleading, as confirmed by a Microsoft community moderator:
“Network reasons have been ruled out as possible causes.”
That will be no surprise to anyone who has seen the useless “Something went wrong” and bogus “check your network connection” errors appearing in various Office apps. See All about “Please check your network connection and try again” errors
The workaround is to disable updates and rolling back to a previous version of Office/Microsoft 365 is possible but easier said than done.
Thanks to Bleeding Computer.
