Microsoft quietly trims Windows 10 support for Microsoft 365 apps — As Windows 10 hits its official end‑of‑support on October 14, 2025. Microsoft 365 customers running on Windows 10 will get a lot less support time than Microsoft originally hinted. Their ‘fine print’ shortens full support from extra three years to less than one.
Originally Microsoft said that Microsoft 365 would be supported on Windows 10 for another 3 years, until October 2028. That gave the company some great headlines but now we know that was a publicity trick.
Many paying Microsoft 365 customers will get only 10 extra months of full updates, that includes all Microsoft 365 Family and Personal customers.
Most organizations get an extra year of complete updates with some lasting until January 2027 if they are using a release channel that Microsoft has been trying to remove.
What about October 2028?
The original October 2028 date only applies with support for a fixed version of Microsoft 365 for Windows 10. Years before October 2028, new features and bug fixes will stop. Meaning that the support will be restricted to security updates only until October 2028 for anyone using Windows 10.
Confused? That’s part of Microsoft’s plan to get people onto Windows 11 by fair means or foul. Below are timelines showing when Windows 10 and Microsoft 365 end support.
Version and Date
The end of support for Microsoft 365 on Windows 10 is being done by version and date.
Microsoft 365 apps for Windows 10 will end with version 2608 – most of us are now using version 2506.
