WhatsApp Finally Drags Itself Onto iPads – About Time

In other news from the “About %$£$@! Time” category, WhatsApp finally has an iPad app to complement the existing Windows, Mac and web extensions.

It only took what, 15 years? but WhatsApp has finally coughed up an iPad app. Meta, ever the pioneer of doing the absolute minimum just late enough, has finally rolled out the long-promised tablet version of its messaging app — a feature iPad users have been politely (read: desperately) asking for since the App Store was a glint in Steve Jobs eye.

WhatsApp for iPad is now available on the App Store.  Start the app and it’ll take you through the steps to link with your smartphone WhatsApp.

The new app, syncs your chats across devices using the same QR-code tethering trick you’d use for the desktop or web app.

iPad features like Stage Manager, Split View, and Slide Over (depending on your iPadOS version) let you use WhatsApp for iPad alongside other apps.

In our book Beating Bots, Spies and Cockups, we suggest using secure messaging services like WhatsApp to securely transfer documents and files because that’s far more secure than email.  Now you can share messages and files from an iPad too.
