WHAT ABOUT FRONTPAGE 2007?

There won’t be a ‘Frontpage 2007’. Instead Microsoft is splitting it into two separate products.

Sharepoint Designer 2007, as foreshadowed months ago here in Office Watch, is really ‘FrontPage 2007’ with a new focus on designing and customizing Sharepoint web sites only.

Expression Web Designer is a new product which we’ve only seen as an early release candidate. It is aimed at companies creating web sites with a focus on people collaborating to make a single web site instead of assuming that one person is doing all the work.

Interestingly ‘Expression Web Designer’ is not included in any of the Office 2007 bundles or product listings which seems to mean it is not considered part of the Office suite any more. Instead it is considered a developers tool.

Frontpage users will be entitled to upgrade pricing (details to be announced) to either of the new products. Microsoft has undertaken to continue supporting Frontpage until June 2008.
