If you have some down-time in the next few weeks you might want to try the ‘talk of the web’ – Firefox and Thunderbird.

If you have some down-time in the next few weeks you might want to try the ‘talk of the web’ – Firefox and Thunderbird.

Firefox is a wonderful browser with features that Internet Explorer should have but doesn’t – like tabbed web pages and many more. Aside from the browser itself there’s a great collection of add-ons. You’ll still need IE for some occasions (some sites, especially banking sites are strict about which browser you can use) but most of the time you can more to a faster and more amenable Firefox. Firefox is free and downloadable from mozilla.org.

If you don’t like it, Firefox can be uninstalled – which is more than you can say for Internet Explorer.

If you’re really into trying new things – check out Thunderbird a new email client that’s worth watching. It is promoted in some circles as an Outlook replacement, but that’s overstating things. Thunderbird doesn’t have the Calendar, Notes and Tasks features of a true PIM program. A better comparison is with Outlook Express.
