Can’t modify Outlook 2003 contacts form

One reader informs us of an error when trying to modify the Outlook 2003 contacts form.

Here’s a strange one, sent to me by Office Watch reader JC.

In Outlook 2003, open a Contact.

Click Tools | Form | Design This Form.

You would expect that a copy of the Contact Form would appear on the screen, ready for you to make changes to the design of the form.

Alas, Outlook 2003 opens up a copy of the Outlook 2002 version of the Contact Form – which is entirely different from the Outlook 2003 version. You can make changes, but you have to start with the old-style form.

I’ve found dozens of truly bizarre mistakes like this. They lead me to the conclusion that Microsoft just ran out of money while it was building Office 2003. How else can you explain all of the truly stupid mistakes?
