Ignore Office 2007 sales spam

What to do about the ‘offers’ for Office 2007 infesting inboxes.

Those bottom feeding opportunists known as spammers are at it again. Predictably they are sending out offers to get ‘Office 2007’ now for an absurdly low price.

The prices are usually less than US$100 and sometimes are combined with other software.  Emails with headings like:

  • “Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise ready for download”
  • “Acrobat Pro 8 & Office 2007 @ $79”

Need we tell you to ignore these messages? I thought so but have received messages from optimistic readers asking if the offers were legit?

No, any such offers for Microsoft software are pirated. Retail copies of Office 2007 won’t be available until January 2007. At present only volume ‘enterprise’ and developers can get Office 2007, so any offer to sell it retail is illicit.

If you were to part with your money, you might not get any software to download. Even if some download is available the license key won’t work over the longer term, Microsoft’s anti-piracy measures will see to that.

Ignore the spam, if you’re really desperate for a copy of Office 2007 there are some free but still quite illegal downloads available from various sites. There’s no need to spend money.
