Office 2007 Pricing

Amazon has published prices and release dates for both Office 2007 and Windows Vista software, revealing those details before Microsoft’s official announcement.

Amazon has published prices and release dates for both Office 2007 and Windows Vista software, revealing those details before Microsoft’s official announcement.

Whether this was deliberate or accidental is anyone’s guess and while the details on Amazon are probably correct, they should not be taken as ‘gospel’. Microsoft is saying nothing. Amazon says the release date is their ‘best guess’ and you’d think that their information is more reliable than most.

According to Amazon, Office 2007 retail packages will be available on 30 January 2007.

That’s no real surprise, nor is the fact that Microsoft seems to be aiming for a simultaneous release of both Office 2007 and Windows Vista.

Months before January 2007 the software will ‘RTM’ (released to manufacturing) and soon afterwards be available to corporate customers and other special account customers (most commonly through the MSDN program).

Here’s the pricing so far, according to Amazon. All in US dollars. They are the same prices as we gave all Office Watch readers back in February.

  • Office 2007 $399
  • Office 2007 Home and Student edition $149
  • Word 2007 Home and Student $119 (new!)
  • Office 2007 Professional $499
  • Office 2007 Small Business edition $449
  • Office 2007 Ultimate edition $679

Upgrades

  • Office 2007 version upgrade $239
  • Office 2007 Professional version upgrade $329
  • Office 2007 Ultimate version upgrade $539

And a selection of the single product packages. We won’t bore you with a complete list at this stage.

  • Groove 2007 $229
  • Sharepoint Designer $299 (version upgrade $159)
  • Visio Standard $259

DON’T ORDER OFFICE 2007 YET

We’ll talk about all this in more detail, closer to the release date. These appear to be the full retail prices and so you should NOT order any of these bundles from Amazon (or anyone else) yet. There is always a price war for market share on the release of a new Windows or Office – either discounts or bonuses added to entice your custom to one store or another.

Another reason for caution is that the exact bundles are not certain – they should be since Microsoft announced them some time ago.

There are also Office 2007 bundles only available to site license holders or for sale via OEM’s (computer makers).

It’s all very complicated and makes you long for the days when we only had Office or Office Professional.

Here at Office Watch we have some tricks up our sleeves to make your choice easier to make and easier on your budget – stay tuned.

A NEW OFFICE 2007 BUNDLE?

You might have noticed an interesting addition to the Amazon list above:

“Word 2007 Home and Student”

This isn’t on the Microsoft list of Office 2007 bundles. It will be interesting to see what is included in this package for $30 less than the Office 2007 Home and Student package (which will have Word, Excel, Powerpoint and OneNote).
