Office for Mac drops VBA

Microsoft has dropped their own automation system from the next Office for Mac.

Visual Basic for Applications is the common macro language for Office users, whether they work on Windows or the Mac. It’s a great shame that Microsoft has decided to drop VBA support from the next version of Office for the Mac.

There will be support for Mac automation and scripting systems but the much-touted (by Microsoft) ability to use a single language across all Microsoft Office has been dropped – it seems for the reason that it’s too hard and too expensive to develop.

Like us, Rob Griffiths is surprised that there hasn’t been more of an outcry over this. I’m not sure I agree with Rob that this decision spells the end of Office for Mac – more likely it’s just more evidence that Microsoft keeps Office for Mac going under sufferance.
