Children promoting Office 2007

Microsoft Australia are trying something different to promote Office 2007 – children.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com.au/charity/ to see kids give answers to various questions including what Microsoft is (the kid on top left has a logical yet wrong conclusion).

If you watch the Office 2007 demo, Microsoft will donate one Aussie dollar to The Smith Family, a well respected Australian charity.

The site has the potential to promote the wonders of Silverlight – Microsoft’s rival to Adobe Flash. At first blush it works well with the kids sitting quietly until you click on a question when some shoot up their hands. Sadly that’s where the problems in Silverlight or this web site started appearing. No matter how many times and computers we tried, the Office 2007 demo never started playing. On other occasions the page locked up with no amount of clicking taking you anywhere – a browser refresh got us started again.

Still – it’s an interesting idea and worth a look if you have some idle moments. There’s also a link to the latest Office 2007 promotion.

PS – it would be interesting to give some artithmetic questions to those kids, bet they come up with more accurate answers than Excel!
