Homemade laptop covers

How to make a nice, cheap and discreet cover for your laptop or netbook.

An article by Perri Lewis in The Guardian caught our eye – instructions for making your own laptop case.

All you need is some felt, webbing and Velcro.  The article includes links to a pattern and step-by-step picture instructions.

It’s one alternative to a common problem – laptop cases that looks like they contain a laptop.

Most cases for portable computers are obvious.  They just scream “high value, portable and easily fenced item inside“, in other words “steal me“.

Far better to keep your laptop/netbook is something far more discreet without a computer related logo.  Any bag supplied with the computer is out as are most of the ‘laptop’ bags on sale – they are a dead giveaway to the contents.

Peter uses a much-travelled day pack which has laptop friendly padding inside. From the outside it looks like a daggy over-used bag with little hint of the the laptop (sometimes two) inside.
