The name change to OneDrive has happened in Office 2013.
As promised, Microsoft has changed the name of SkyDrive, their cloud storage service, to OneDrive.
They did this after losing a legal battle with Rupert Murdoch’s Sky TV service over use of the ‘Sky’ name.
Most references to SkyDrive have changed to OneDrive.
For example Word 2013 now has OneDrive names:
This change happened when Office has linked to the cloud service. We could not find a software patch that did this so presumably it was done as an update to the Office 2013 ‘Place’ settings.
Windows 8.1, which has OneDrive integrated into it, hasn’t yet been changed to say OneDrive. However the working of the Windows 8.1/Skydrive connection is unchanged. We have comprehensive coverage of the pros and cons of SkyDrive/OneDrive in Windows 8.1 in chapter 11 of Windows 8.1 for Microsoft Office users.
All web links should continue working and gradually everyone can change over to onedrive.com onedrive.live.com etc.
We’d like to hear about any OneDrive name change problems via our feedback page.
