PowerPivot changes in Excel 2013

The November 2015 release of Office patches includes a lot more than the usual security updates.  There are major changes to Power Pivot in Excel 2013.

There’s three separate patches involved.  Two of the patches (KB3039739 and KB3039800) are actually part 1 and part 2 of the same update.

There were conflicts between Power Query and Power Pivot.  To fix that, now when you’ve used Power Query to add data to a Power Pivot some features are now only available in Power Query.

  • Edit Table Properties
  • Column-level changes: Rename, Data type change, Delete
  • Table-level changes: Rename, Delete

If you try to edit the table in Power Pivot you’ll get an error message: “The table was created with Power Query.  To change this table use Power Query instead’.
