The Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant for Office 365 sounds promising for anyone with Outlook troubles – but what does it actually do and for whom?

It promises to “Support and Recovery Assistant works by running tests to figure out what’s wrong. It can fix many problems for you, or it can tell you how to fix them yourself.”

Which Outlook?
Nowhere on the web page does it say which Outlook the tool works with. Outlook for Windows, Outlook for Mac, Outlook apps for Apple or Android, Outlook.com ?
Since Office 365 isn’t software (it’s the marketing name for a group of Microsoft software and services) how do you know if it’ll help?
Turns out it’ll help with some of those if you’re using Office 365 hosted mail (Exchange Online) . Once you’ve installed and started the Assistant you’ll see these options.
