Spilt view arrives for Excel on the iPad

Excel for iPad now has Split View, allowing two workbooks to be seen side-by-side.

That’s catching up with Word and PowerPoint for iPad which got Split View in mid-2020.  iOS 13 is required for Split View on iPad.

Split View is hidden away, there’s no menu or button for it.  Here’s how it works in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Start in File view. Tap on a workbook and slide it to the left or right side of the screen.  The screen will split into two like this.

Now choose a second workbook to appear on the other side of the screen.

Change the Split

Split View defaults to ‘half and half’ but that’s easily changed. Look for the handle on the vertical dividing bar.  Drag that left/right to whatever proportions you want.

Closing Split View

To remove Split View and leave only one workbook open, just slide the divider to one side of the screen or the other.
