Microsoft 365’s secret plan for the US government

The US Department of Defense (DoD) is now fully deploying an extra-special secret version of Microsoft 365 to high-ranking areas including the Secretary of Defense.

Called ‘DOD365-Secret’ or ‘DOD365-Sec’, this Microsoft 365 plan is one of the DoD’s first moves into cloud computing and 21st Century collaboration.  The new system has been trialed since January.

DOD365-Secret includes Exchange Server, OneDrive and SharePoint using the DoD’s own classified network, SIPRNet (Secure Internet Protocol Router Network).

The DoD is already deploying Office 365 software across departments, agencies and in the field.

Microsoft has previously announced special Azure cloud storage for the US government at Secret and Top Secret levels.

That’s all great for the US Government.  We can only hope that some of those secrecy provisions will make their way to regular organizations and individuals because the current OneDrive cloud security is noticeably lacking.
