Wavy Dash 〰  symbol is like a long curvy version of the em-dash, there’s no specific meaning or purpose.

Not to be confused with the two Tilde ~ symbols and reversed ∽ Tilde .

How Wavy Dash 〰 looks in different fonts.

Wavy Dash only appears in two Office fonts including Arial Unicode MS.   Strictly speaking three but MS Gothic and MS UI Gothic are the same for this symbol.

Word and Outlook

The Wavy Dash 〰  sign does NOT have an inbuilt shortcut in Word.

Use the standard Word Alt + X symbol shortcut 3030  + Alt + X

Once in a document you can copy it to AutoCorrect and make your own shortcut.

Windows

In Windows there are several shortcuts to enter the Wavy Dash 〰  character into any program, but they use a numeric keypad, not the number row above the letters.

The Windows 11/10 Emoji Panel has the Wavy Dash 〰  emoji. Use Win + . (period/fullstop) to open the panel then just search for ‘wavy’.

MacOS and Office for Mac typing Wavy Dash 〰

On a Mac, to enter the Wavy Dash 〰 symbol:

  • Command + Control + Spacebar shortcut to open the Character Viewer.  
  • Search for “ Wavy “ and the Viewer will find two ‘wavy dash’ among others.
