Microsoft Word Speaks! Audio Feedback for 60+ Keyboard Shortcuts

The latest update to Microsoft Word brings a major accessibility boost: Word can now speak when you use over 60 keyboard shortcuts. This new audio-feedback feature means that, when you press a supported shortcut, Word will audibly confirm the action — helping users who rely on screen readers or simply prefer audio cues to navigate more confidently and efficiently.

For users who rely on screen readers (like NVDA or JAWS), audible confirmations mean more confidence, fewer mistakes, and a smoother document‑creation experience.

Visual cues are great if you see the screen. But if you’re blind or have low vision, you need a verbal “yep done!” to know things like “bold on” or “heading applied.” The update fills in that gap.

Clarity: Users no longer have to guess whether an action (like applying a bullet list or changing a heading) worked. Word says it out loud.

Speed & efficiency: Keyboard shortcuts are already a fast way to get things done. With audio feedback, you don’t need to pause, check formatting visually.

Reduced mouse‑dependence: Less navigating drop‑down menus or toolbars; more typing, more doing. Great for users who depend on screen readers, plus a productivity win for anyone who prefers shortcuts.
