Take advantage of the Technology Guarantee to get a small discount on the upcoming Office for Mac
There is a small opportunity to save money on Office 2011 for Mac Home and Business edition.
The Technology Guarantee is now in effect for anyone buying Office 2008 for Mac until 30 Nov 2010.
As with Office 2010 for Windows, the dropping of upgrade prices for the new edition means there’s a chance to buy an upgrade version now for less money than the new version of Office (which has no upgrade price).
If you buy Office 2008 for Mac Business edition (version upgrade or special student offer) – the official price is $235 but you can get it from Amazon for $202 . You’ll qualify for a two license version of Office 2011 Home and Business which will be officially priced at $279.
You’ll save around $40 based on the official prices, probably less based on the street prices. It’s not a lot compared to the saving available to Office 2010 buyers but better than nothing.
It seems silly to buy another copy of software you probably already have but the dropping of the upgrade discount and changes in prices make it a little worthwhile.
The similar prices for the ‘Home and Student’ bundles means there’s no discount opportunity available for the cheaper edition.
Note: the sub-$100 Office for Mac products on Amazon are not listed as qualifying products by Microsoft (only Home and Student or Business editions qualify).
As always, carefully check Microsoft’s Technology Guarantee rules.
