AI Can Turn Your Angry Email Into One That Actually Gets Results

If you have ever typed an angry email and hesitated before hitting send, AI can help. Paste your unfiltered draft into Copilot, ChatGPT, or any AI tool and ask for a polite but firm rewrite. You still get to vent everything you are feeling, but the version you actually send is calmer, clearer, and far more likely to get the outcome you want.

Rewriting an angry message means you have an outlet for your feelings while still, hopefully, getting the result you want.

Writing the angry message is useful therapy from the “get it all out” or “don’t bottle it up” schools of thought.  Write whatever you like but don’t send.

Then put your counter-productive remarks into an AI and ask for a rewrite in a more polite but firm way.

In the end you get something you can send which doesn’t offend other people and makes them more inclined to help you. Bonus: slightly reduced stress and blood pressure!

Any AI can do this and we have more examples of ‘hard writing made easy’ in both our ebooks. Writing and Email with any AI have chapters about this and other difficult writing tasks.

Angry, counterproductive messages to avoid

Our example is a customer complaint but the same AI rewriting can be used in other situations.

  • Resignation emails
  • Complaints to your boss about a colleague
  • Political or social Arguments With colleagues
  • Online Reviews
  • Landlord or neighbor disputes
  • Replies to negative comments or reviews
  • Breakup or relationship messages

In other words, where the message could be forwarded, screenshotted, or used against you later is worth running through an AI rewrite, before you hit send.

Here’s an example of a personal and vituperative email turned into something constructive.

Complaint to ACME Corp.

Dear Marvin and other useless ACME bastards,
What is wrong with you people?  Do you give a tinker’s cuss for customers or do you just collect an ill-deserved pay packet and go home.
I ordered from your catalog two items that you’ve overcharged me for but not bothered to send.
All I desperately need is one pack of “Dehydrated Boulders” and one “Jet-Propelled Pogo-Stick” which your lying web site say are both in stock.
Pogo-sticks or boulders see I not
Your criminally thieving Finance Department have charged me twice for these goods but won’t take phone calls or return emails.
According to your web site (doubtless a candidate for a ‘Best Fiction’ award), my order 12345 dated 1 April has been shipped but it’s now two months later. There’s no tracking information so there’s no way to know when, how or even if the items have been shipped.
I’d complain to my congressman but he won’t do anything for me because coyotes can’t vote.
Yours in anger,

Wile E. Coyote

We asked Copilot using this prompt.  Any general AI can do the same thing.

Rewrite this letter into something polite but still explaining the problem and what I want to happen.

Look over the AI version. There are likely a few changes to make before you send it.

A simple, easy and effective use of AI.
