Here’s the complete list of June 2016 updates to Office 2016 for Windows.  This is what Microsoft calls the ‘Deferred Channel’ that’s sent to all subscribers every four months.

Excel: Feature updates

This channel release contains the following feature updates:

  • Publish to Power BI: Save and publish workbook items, such as charts, ranges, and tables to powerbi.com and interact with that data in a dashboard format. Requires a Power BI subscription. More information
  • Funnel charts: Display values as progressively decreasing proportions. More information
  • Improved formula autocomplete: Excel now returns all partial matches when typing a function name, not just exact matches from the beginning of the string.
  • New text functions: Two new text functions are now available: CONCAT and TEXTJOIN.
  • New logical functions: Two new logical functions are now available: IFS and SWITCH.
  • New statistical functions: Two new statistical functions are now available: MAXIFS and MINIFS.
  • Send as options: Send a document either as an attachment or as a PDF from the Share pane. More information
  • BI templates: Three new templates that take advantage of the business intelligence (BI) capabilities of Excel. Calendar Insights, Stock Analysis, My Cashflow.

Excel: Non-security updates

This channel release contains the following non-security updates:

  • Fix an issue where if you add a hyperlink in a workbook and then save the workbook on a Windows 10 computer, the next time you open the workbook, the workbook is incorrectly opened in Protected View.
  • Fix an issue where a named range is incorrectly imported when using Data > Get & Transform > From Table.
  • Fix an issue where macros run noticeably slower on computers where logging is enabled for the Telemetry Dashboard.
  • Fix an issue where, when using a theme color and running a macro or add-in, the status bar changes to green with gray text, making it difficult for user to read the status update on the status bar.
  • Fix an issue where the Inquire ribbon doesn’t display after the Inquire add-in is enabled.
  • Fix an issue where using Application.OnKey() to intercept a key stroke causes Excel to crash.
  • Fix an issue where dragging the fill handle of a cell formatted with a number as a Long Date causes Excel to crash.

  • Fix an issue where, after you delete a column in the Query Editor, a blank column appears at the end of the table after refreshing the query.
  • Fix an issue where an unexpected error occurs when choosing the Sparklines tab in Quick Analysis of a query table.
  • Fix an issue where, after you perform a cut and paste operation in a query table, you can’t refresh the query by using the Workbook Queries pane.
  • Fix an issue that when you refresh a query, the focus is moved to the sheet of its associated query table.
  • Remove reference to Power Query from error message about supported OData versions.
  • Fix an issue where Power Query features appear as available, but don’t work, when the product hasn’t been activated.

  • Fix an issue where content highlighting doesn’t appear when using See Playback option.
  • Fix an issue with Office 365 Business, where trying to use OneNote with SharePoint results in an error message that tells users that they have to upgrade to a different version of Office.
  • Fix an issue where XPS or printouts created using the Windows desktop client appear as a red X in non-Windows desktop clients, because those clients don’t support native XPS rendering.
  • Fix an issue that causes OneNote to crash when the same color for a border is selected twice in the color picker.
  • Fix an issue with Office 365 Business, where trying to use OneNote with SharePoint results in an error message that tells users that they have to upgrade to a different version of Office.
  • Fix an issue for Surface Pro 3 where video recording preview does not show what is being recorded.

Outlook: Feature updates

This channel release contains the following feature updates:

  • Archive command on the ribbon: Allows you to quickly move an item stored in your Inbox or any other folder to an archive folder.More information
  • Work with groups: Browse, join, and create groups from within Outlook and add ones to follow most actively to your Favorites. More information
  • Picture for suggested contact: When searching in Outlook using a name, a person’s picture now appears next to his or her name in the list of suggested contacts.
  • Troubleshooting tool: Diagnose and solve some of the most frequently encountered Outlook problems by running the Office Support and Recovery Assistant tool from File > Troubleshooting.
  • Grammar checker options: Additional or updated options for French, Norwegian, and Danish grammar checkers, which will result in additional grammar errors getting highlighted.
  • Provide feedback: Suggest a feature or an improvement for Outlook on the UserVoice site by going to File > Feedback.
  • Persian calendar: the Persian calendar as a primary or alternate calendar.

Outlook: Non-security updates

This channel release contains the following non-security updates:

  • Improve the detection of possible impending PST corruption and add steps to try to prevent the corruption from happening.
  • Update the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) so that it can detect and correct file corruption issues related to how .pst files are indexed and searched. This type of corruption can prevent .pst files from loading, cause Outlook to crash, or cause high CPU utilization.
  • Fix an issue where the link to view older mail messages on the server doesn’t appear at the bottom of the list of messages in the folder, such as the Inbox or Deleted Items folder.
  • Fix an issue where using keyboard shortcuts to access an attachment in an email causes Outlook to crash.
  • Fix an issue where accessing a ghosted public folder on Exchange Server causes Outlook to crash.

  • Fix an issue where items in the From dropdown aren’t completely highlighted completely in high contrast mode.
  • Fix an issue where only the first attachment is selected when using SHIFT + CLICK to select multiple attachments.
  • Fix an issue where, when configured to use POP3, all mail messages on the server are deleted from the Inbox after Outlook downloads the mail messages. More information about this issue

  • Fix an issue where users can’t access public folders hosted on Exchange Server 2010.
  • Fix an issue where images display at the wrong size when sending mail between a high dpi device and a normal dpi monitor.
  • Fix an issue where dragging the scrollbar in message list causes the list to jump to the end of the list.
  • Fix an issue where a bookmark is created that spans multiple paragraphs, but when the email is received, only the first paragraph of the bookmark is selected when using Go To.
  • Fix an issue where pasting text into Outlook doesn’t show the full text if the amount of text pasted is greater than the height of the window.
  • Fix an issue where a screen reader only reads the first paragraph of a multi-paragraph email signature when editing the email signature.

PowerPoint: Feature updates

  • PowerPoint Designer: A new service that lets you take your content and automatically generate a variety of ideas that you can choose from to make your slides look better. More informationThis service requires Internet connectivity. To disable this feature, use the latest Group Policy Administrative Template files and enable the PowerPoint Designer Options setting.   • Fix an issue where if PowerPoint has restarted after a crash and you’re using the Document Recovery task pane, you get an error message when you try to save the recovered file or open the original file.
  • Fix an issue where PowerPoint crashes when trying to save a recovery file that was created from a previous PowerPoint crash.
  • Fix an issue where numbers and spaces are lost when saving a presentation in .rtf format or copying text into a rich-text editor, such as WordPad.
  • Fix an issue where if you have a presentation that includes a table, and then save the presentation as a PDF, PowerPoint crashes.
  • Fix an issue where printing a document causes PowerPoint to crash.
  • Fix an issue where using # to insert a slide number on a master slide inside a textbox doesn’t display the slide number.

  • Fix an issue where the Design Ideas dialog continues to appear when inserting pictures after the user selects “No Thanks”.

Skype for Business: Non-security updates

  • Fix an issue where the user receives an error message when attempting to use conferencing features, such as a whiteboard or sharing notes. More information about this issue
  • Fix an issue where Skype crashes for some users in large meetings, such as meetings with more than 30 participants.
  • Fix an issue on computers with Malwarebytes software installed where Skype hangs when the user attempts to initiate audio or visual scenarios, such as desktop sharing or joining the audio portion of a meeting. More information about this issue
  • Fix an issue where if using the up arrow key to scroll through previous IM messages in the chat history, the selected item moves unexpectedly back to the item at the bottom of the chat history.

  • Fix an issue where screen sharing, primarily on Windows 7, can lead to the screen sharing session freezing after about 10 minutes and Skype might not respond to user input.

  • Fix an issue, when multi-factor authentication is configured, where repeated prompts for phone authentication are received throughout the day.
  • Change what a viewer sees when the sharer locks the screen in RDP. Viewer is now shown a notification, instead of the RDP pause image.

Office suite: Feature updates

  • Small object selection handles: Improved selection handle to help users manipulate small objects in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, especially when using a touch-enabled device.
  • Black theme: A new theme to provide the highest level of contrast in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote. More information
  • Ink annotations: Use your finger or pen in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint to write and draw, and use the tools on the new Draw tab to highlight content of particular interest. More information
  • Sort capability in File > Open: Sort by name or date modified in File > Open in all apps except for Outlook. For Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, sorting is also available in File > Save As.
  • Folder browse capability in File > Save As: Use full folder navigation in File > Save As in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for OneDrive folders, OneDrive for Business folders, and This PC.
  • Send As options: Send a document either as an attachment or as a PDF from the Share pane in Word or PowerPoint.
  • Insert Picture API: Insert images into Word, Excel, or PowerPoint by using the document.setSelectedDataAsync method in the common office.js library. The Word JavaScript API provides host-specific methods called insertInlinePictureFromBase64() to set inline pictures on Body, ContentControl, Paragraph, and Range objects.

Office suite: Non-security updates

This channel release contains the following non-security updates:

  • Fix a caching issue that caused some Office 2013 licensing and program installation information to be deleted prior to a Microsoft-initiated upgrade from the Office 2013 version of an Office 365 client, such as Office 365 ProPlus, to the Office 2016 version.
  • Fix an issue where the Document Recovery task pane doesn’t appear the next time you open the Office app after it has crashed, especially if you re-open the app right after it crashed.
  • Fix Update OfficeC2RClient.exe to use “channel” instead of “branch” as a command-line option.
  • Fix an issue where, when using Share in an Office app to share an Office file on the local computer that has been synced with OneDrive for Business, the user gets the message “We’re still uploading your file. You can jump back in as soon as we’re finished” and that prevents the user from sharing the document.
  • Fix an issue where a problem with a resource DLL causes the Office app to crash when first opened after installation, when printing a document, or when undoing an editing operation.
  • Fix an option under File > Options > Advanced in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint to let users set the default behavior for using a pen to be mouse emulation instead of ink annotations.
  • Fix an issue where the app crashes if the user tries to convert the file to a PDF using Adobe Acrobat PDFMaker.
  • Fix an issue where icon specified in custom UI with imageMSO attribute doesn’t display in Word, Excel, or PowerPoint.
  • Fix an issue where opening an app after installing Office from office.com causes the app to crash if the computer doesn’t have Internet access or can’t reach the Office Licensing Service on the Internet.
  • Fix an issue where the Date Modified information that displays when doing an Open or Save As is truncated.

  • Fix an issue where a user doesn’t get signed into an Office app automatically when using a computer that is identified as being joined to both a domain and a cloud domain.
  • Fix an issue where the first time opening an Office app after upgrading to 2016 results in the app being in reduced functionality mode and requires the app to be restarted to get full functionality.
  • Fix an issue where running Office with shared computer activation enabled on a computer running Remote Desktop Services results in an error, when opening an app, that tells the user that they need to use a volume license edition of Office.
  • Fix an issue where installation gets stuck at around 90% complete.
