You can now sync your Outlook notes to iTouch or iPhone

Sometime recently Apple sneaked in the ability to synchronize your Outlook Notes folder with your iPod Touch (aka iTouch) or iPhone.

When this happened we’re not entirely sure. Apple’s list of ‘What’s New’ in iTunes 9 is very short and clearly incomplete (we’ll try to remember this next time we complain when Microsoft produces a long list of changes).

Office Watch reader Erik S. says that Outlook Notes sync arrived with the iPhone v3 software update.  That makes a lot of sense though we could not find anything on the Apple site to confirm it .

Suffice to say that if you have the iPhone 3 or later device software and iTunes v9 or above, the Outlook Notes sync feature should be there.

The first we knew of it is when we were looking down the ‘Info’ tab in iTunes v9.1 only to see this:

We checked the box and synced with the device and sure enough all our Outlook notes appeared on the iTouch.

We typed a note on the iTouch and looked in Outlook after another sync – it worked!

This is especially useful because, until now, the only way to copy a note from the iTouch was to email it from the device.

The iPod Nano 5th generation also has a ‘Notes’ features but it’s not related to Outlook Notes (at least not yet). Nano Notes can view plain text files you manually copy to the appropriate folder on the device.
