Bad IntelliSense

How to stop Access auto-correcting your typing when you don’t want it to.

Q:  Maryann S. writes:  “My application uses a number of two- or three-letter codes as field values.  Sometimes, when I type one in, it changes to something else (for example, HGE changes to HE).  How can I stop this?  It is really annoying.”

A:  This is an example of a supposedly useful feature going awry.  To prevent Access from “correcting” your typing, open the Options dialog from the Tools menu, click the Spelling tab, then the AutoCorrect options button on that tab, and uncheck the Replace text as you type checkbox.
