OneNote with Office 2003 and Office 2007

A reader asks how to install OneNote (available free from Microsoft) with the older versions of Office like Office 2003 or Office 2007.

OneNote 2013 is available free from Microsoft as are versions for Mac, Apple and Android.

Any attempt to mix versions of Office should begin with installing the older software (in this case Office 2003/2007/2010) first.  Then install the more recently released software (OneNote 2013).

The problem might be that the OneNote 2013 download available from Microsoft is only compatible with Windows 7 and 8 – NOT Windows XP.  It’s not a question of Office 2003/2007 compatibility but the operating system.

The workaround would be to use OneNote in a web browser – which requires a compatible browser or migrate from Windows XP to a more recent version of Windows.
