Copilot gets Make Changes inside Word 365

Paid Copilot plans have some innovations in the Word 365 interface with a better way to Make Changes to text plus more paste options too.

These changes are in Word 365 public releases linked to a paid Copilot plan. We found them in v2407 build 17830.20138 with Copilot Pro.

Auto Rewrite

Paid Copilot in Word already has ‘Auto Rewrite’ but it doesn’t have a lot of options.

Make Changes

Make Changes is a much more flexible version of the existing ‘Auto Rewrite’ option.

You can enter a complete prompt asking for a specific change of style or more.

Or ask Copilot to add more information or detail.

The case of the disappearing Copilot

That’s all great, assuming the little Copilot icon appears in the margin.  The Copilot icon disappears and reappears for no good reason.

There’s no official way to force the Make Changes, AutoRewrite, Visualize as Table menu to appear except perhaps to close the document and reopen it.  Doing that many times each hour isn’t exactly improving productivity.

Alas, Microsoft seems focused on adding more and more features to boast about instead of ensuring the core code is stable and reliable.

Paste with Copilot

Another addition are more options in the pull-down menu when pasting content into Word.

All the standard Paste Options are there (Keep Source Formatting, Merge etc) then the three Copilot choices.

That lets you paste in some text then immediately jump to the rewrite features.
