Here’s how to make a message (letter or card) to make it ‘appear’ from a PowerPoint envelope graphic. This message can be personal or professional, depending on your preference.
In Make your own Envelope graphic for PowerPoint we showed how to make an ‘open envelope’ graphic in PowerPoint with some clever use of the Office Shapes.
Now we’ll add a message (letter or card) to enhance the design, making it stand out and immediately capture the viewer’s attention.
Insert a small rectangular shape that fits ‘inside’ the envelope, then right-click on it and select Format Shape | Solid Fill or other option .
Next, add a message by clicking on the Insert tab, selecting Text Box, and typing your text, such as “Thank You.”
Finally, select both the text box and the message, then group them together by pressing Ctrl + G (Windows) or Command + G (Mac) to keep them aligned. Alternatively, right-click on the selected objects, go to Group, and choose Group from the menu. This will keep both elements together, making it easier to move or resize them as a single unit.
Why a separate Text Box?
You could drop the text box and just add text to the ‘card’ shape. Having a separate overlaid text box gives you a lot more options for positioning the text in relation to the card.
Popping out effect
To create the popping out effect select the shape and click on Send Backward | Send to Back till the text box fits the envelope perfectly as shown in the screenshot below.
For a nicer effect, move the ‘card’ up with text to the front (Send to Front) then change the bottom three triangles so they are in front of the card graphic.
(in the above example we’ve changed the card shape to a rounded edges and switched to a more casual font ‘Chalkduster’).
Right- click on each triangle and choose Bring to Front | Bring Forward (not Bring to Front). Start with the two side triangles then the bottom shape.
Depending on the layering, you might need to tinker with the ‘Bring Forward’ and ‘Send Back’ settings until the whole shape looks OK
Envelope with an Image
Wishing someone Bon Voyage or a happy vacation can be simple, but why not make it more creative? Add a picture card on top of this envelope for a unique touch. Once ready, place the picture inside the envelope for a delightful surprise!
To achieve the popping-out effect, select the shape and use Send Backward | Send to Back until the text box fits perfectly within the envelope, as shown in the screenshot below.
Use the Text Box to craft your message on the picture card, then group them together by pressing Ctrl + G (Windows) or Command + G (Mac).
Your greeting card is now ready to be dispatched.
Or change the card shape with a beveled edge – Shape Format | Shape Effects | Bevel.
