US Daylight Savings ends this weekend

Changes in Daylight Savings this weekend should not cause trouble for Windows or Outlook users.

In the USA, daylight savings time ends this weekend – Sunday 2 November 2008.

As many Outlook users know, changes in Windows time settings can cause all sorts of trouble for their calendars. But in this case there’s unlikely to be any trouble.

The changes to start and end dates for US and Canadian DST happened last year and most computers have been updated already with the latest time zone information over the last 2 years or more.

There is an ‘August 2008 cumulative time zone update’ available from here which has the latest global information – but it’s not necessary for the coming weekend changes.

Windows Vista users get to assure themselves that the change will happen when and how it should. Click on the clock in the system tray, then ‘Change date and time settings.

Under Time Zone it lists not just the current TZ setting but also details of the next change DST change (if any).
