Meet the 6 year old Office specialist

They keep getting younger.  A 6 year old London boy has become the youngest ever Word 2013 Microsoft Office specialist.

The previous record holder was a whopping 9 years old and took the exams in Nigeria.

It’s been news in Pakistan because Humza was born in Lahore and moved to London with his family in 2011.

Sadly, only the Pakistani press has mentioned Hamza’s feat, even though he’s lived in Britain for two-thirds of his short life.  No British paper (even local papers) have mentioned this world record.

It’s very impressive for someone that young — it’s a 90 minute exam where you have to do a series of practical tasks.  How may 6 year olds can sit in one place to do anything, let alone an exam designed for adults?

The Microsoft Office specialist exams are more practical these days.  Gone are the multiple choice exams where candidates memorized the answers (even if those answers were wrong or incomplete).

The exams are in a simulated environment.  You’re asked to show the ability to do a series of tasks or complete a project through a set of specific tasks.

Well done Hamza!
