Office 2013 is dropped from Office 365 for some customers

Office 2013 won’t be available for Office 365 Enterprise customers from the end of February 2017. Incomplete reports have unnecessarily raised concerns, so Office Watch will try to clarify.

This deadline applies to Office 365 ProPlus client applications customers only.

It does NOT apply to Office 365 Home or Personal, see below.  Nor does it apply to Office 2013 Professional Plus, Professional, and Standard editions.

Office 365 ProPlus customers can continue to use Office 2013 software they have installed and security updates will continue until April 2018.

But the Office 2013 software plus language packs won’t be available for download from the end of February.  There’ll be no feature updates nor support.

In Microsoft’s KB article, it omewhat vaguely and ominously, Microsoft says:

“Microsoft will not provide notification before implementing potentially disruptive changes that may result in a service interruption for users of the 2013 versions of Office 365 client applications”

This change applies to these products (quoting Microsoft):

  • Office 365 ProPlus (2013)
  • Office 365 Small Business Premium (2013)
  • Office 365 Business (2013)
  • Project Pro for Office 365 (2013)
  • Visio Pro for Office 365 (2013)

Office 2013 with Office 365 Home or Office 365 Personal

As we explained in Office versions available for Office 365 subscribers – Windows or Mac  you don’t have to accept Microsoft default Office install option.  Dig down through Language and install options | Additional Install options to ‘Other versions of Office’.

At present you can choose Office 2013 – 32 or 64 bit
