The Apple command ⌘ symbol can be typed into Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Outlook. Both in Office for Windows and Office for Mac.
Apple command ⌘ symbol appears on Mac and iPad keyboards but only as a command option, not as a symbol to type.
The ⌘ symbol predates Apple computers. It’s a ‘PLACE OF INTEREST SIGN’ in some Scandinavian countries and that’s the symbols official Unicode name. ⌘ is also called Apple key, Command key, Looped Square, Saint Johns Arms or Bowen Knot.
How Apple command ⌘ looks in different fonts.
Here’s some examples of how Apple command ⌘ looks in some Office fonts. Most fonts don’t include the symbol for example Calibri or Times New Roman don’t have it. Broader scope fonts like Segoe UI Symbol, Arial Unicode MS and Cambria Math have the Apple key symbol.

In Windows there are several shortcuts to enter the Apple command ⌘ character into any program, but they use a numeric keypad, not the number row above the letters.

MacOS and Office for Mac inserting characters
On a Mac, to enter the Apple command ⌘ symbol:
- Command + Control + Spacebar shortcut to open the Character Viewer.
- Search for “ Place “ and the Viewer should find the symbol you need. That finds the ‘Place of Interest’ sign.
After you’ve used the symbol, it’ll appear in the Frequently used list.
Despite the name Character Viewer, the Apple system tool will also insert characters into any program, including Office for Mac.
