PowerPoint Cameo gets an important upgrade with Placeholders

PowerPoint’s ‘camera in slide’ feature ‘Cameo’ is getting a welcome boost, if not an essential piece of Cameo.  Cameo placeholders can be added to Slide Masters.

Cameo is Microsoft’s name for putting a live camera image into a PowerPoint slide presentation. It’s ideal for online presentations.

That was fine but the cameo video had to be manually applied to each slide in a presentation, until now.

Cameo Placeholders

Now a cameo placeholder can be inserted into a Slide Master layout from Insert Placeholder.

Change the Cameo format to whatever shape, size and position you like.

If necessary, rename the Slide Master layout.

In Normal View, choose the layout with a cameo placeholder.

Now the cameo video will appear on each slide, in the same position and shape, using that Slide Master Layout.

Of course, you can change the cameo on a ‘per slide’ basis. See ‘slide 2’ above which has the video taking up most of the slide.

Who gets it?

According to Microsoft, Cameo Placeholders are being gradually released to some Insiders starting with

  • Windows v2309 build 16827.20278
  • Mac v16.77 build 23082700

PowerPoint online doesn’t support cameo placeholders directly but once setup in PowerPoint 365 Windows/Mac, the cameo image will appear in PowerPoint for the web.
