Excel 365 for Windows and Web is getting a great new feature called Value Preview. You’ll be able to see the current value of any formula part just by hovering over it.
It’s simple and most people won’t even notice it except by accident.
Just hover the mouse over part of a formula to see the current result. That’s not just for cells and other references.
Tests like “<=
” also show their current status (True/False) which is really useful for debugging a formula.
Value Preview will save a lot of time fixing a formula. Instead of making partial formulas to isolate the problem, you’ll be able to see what’s happening right in the whole formula. Alas, it doesn’t seem you can see value previews for a whole bracketed calculation.
It’s supposed to be ‘rolling out’ now for both Excel 365 for Windows and the web version however we can’t see it on either. Not even the Insiders/Beta release. No word on Excel for Mac availability.
Keep an eye out for Value Preview when you’re next typing a formula.
